St Wolfgang

$30.00

Yet rejoice not in this, that spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice in this, that your names are written in heaven.

One of the three great German saints of the 10th century, a Benedictine monk, reformer, missionary to Hungary and Archbishop of Regensburg.

The image shows a compression of several events in St Wolfgang’s life. After a busy public life, St Wolfgang retired to the wilderness to live as a hermit. He is said to have prayed, asking God to show him where to construct the hermitage. Then he threw a hatchet into the woods, trusting to God's providence to guide it’s path to his future lodging. It is said that he even bound the devil to assist in his building projects.
