St Veronica
St Veronica
Many say, Who sheweth us good things? The light of thy countenance, O Lord, is signed upon us: thou hast given gladness in my heart.
During Christ's Passion, nearly all of His followers fell away. The exuberant crowd welcoming Him on Palm Sunday is replaced by the Good Friday crowd crying, Crucify Him! His closest friends and disciples flee at His arrest on Mount Olive with one even enabling the soldiers. However, hearts began to turn. His mother never leaves. St John late in the night returns and stands with her on Golgotha. The women of Jerusalem lament his suffering. St Veronica was one of these. Amidst Christ's public humiliation, she gave a small act of charity, a towel to wipe His marred face and in return He left the image of His bloody face.
Behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.
